Leavers Ceremony

Centre stage was taken by our talented leavers in the annual Year 6 Awards Ceremony.

The children entertained parents and families after requesting their final, formal event at Reynolds Academy include a performance.

The half-an-hour show was a break with tradition and was a big hit with the audience.

Principal Mrs Scott said: "We wanted to celebrate their achievements and we asked our wonderful Year 6 their views.

"They said they didn't want an event where they had to sit and listen and were very clear they wanted one last chance to perform to their parents.

"It was a wonderful performance and we are lucky to have so many talented actors and actresses amongst us."

Mrs Scott said it had been another successful year.

"It is important to emphasise that, although only certain individuals will be awarded trophies, everyone in the year has made progress and everyone has achieved.

"Everyone associated with Reynolds Academy is extremely proud of the children in Year 6 and at the end of the presentation we do have a gift for all children to take home to remember their time with us and to recognise everyone's success this year."

Mrs Scott said Year 6 have done "a fantastic job".

"They are a brilliant cohort of children who have had to contend with some tough times and definitely kept us on our toes!

"They have worked extremely hard and they have had a lot of pressure on them being only the third cohort to sit the full SATs since 2019, for some of them having quite a chunk of time at home in the middle of their school career.

"Although the results are important to us, we always say it's not about the score on a bit of a paper but about ensuring when you leave us, you are as ready as possible to continue your education at secondary school.

"We hope what you have learnt here will be the foundation for your future life path and the work that you have done this year will set you up for the rest of your lives."

Some children, Mrs Scott said, have been through more than others endure in a lifetime.

"In 20 years of teaching, I have come across many children who have had to cope with the demands that life throws at them, some at a very early age.

"However, the children sitting before me now have shown us all that with hard work, determination and belief, anything is possible."

She thanked the staff who went way beyond the call of duty: Mrs Dale, Mr Holmes, Mrs Brecken and Mrs Woodland as well Mrs Houghton, Miss Lindley, Mrs Hutchinson and Mrs Sargent. Mrs Crookes has tutored specific groups and Mrs Scott said her hard work had made a difference.

She also thanked Mr Cookson who has supported many of the children this year, collectively as a class or as individuals, as well as the staff and her.

Mrs Scott said: "I would also like to thank you, our parents for your support this year and indeed the last few years.

"We all share the same goal to ensure that your children are safe, happy and are given as many opportunities to help them succeed. We couldn't do what we do in school without your support.

"On behalf of everyone at Reynolds, I'd like to wish all of Year 6 and their families the best of luck next year and in the future."
