Music
Curriculum Leader: Mrs Victoria Edwards
Intent Statement
At Reynolds Academy we believe that music encourages imagination, self-confidence, diversity and originality. We think that music builds cultural capital and gives our pupils the skills, discipline, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences across the curriculum. Music is not just a subject to learn, but an activity that you can practise with your hands, your voice, your eyes and your whole personality to ignite imagination and expression.
Our Music curriculum builds the importance of creativity through performing, listening and expression, starting at an early age in the Early Years through Expressive Arts and Design and Being Imaginative and Expressive. It encourages a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.
Our objective at Reynolds Academy is to develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music, and an unbiased respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person's life. We are committed to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community, and can use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.
Reynolds’ intent is to provide a high-quality provision for all pupils in three key areas; curriculum music, instrumental and vocal lessons and ensembles and musical events and opportunities. Our school will deliver in the following areas:
